Best of 2005

Sitting on the cusp of 2005 and 2006 I thought it would be nice to look back at the fun things, since the looking-back-at news and current affairs shows (which I always watch) focus so heavily on the dramatic and tragic. There were way too many of those stories this year and, sadly, too many people still dealing with the aftermath of natural disasters. :(

So, this post is my fun post listing my best of 2005, and when I say "best" what I really mean is "the one that gave me the most enjoyment, fun or entertainment or created the loudest WOW."

Best book: Ain't She Sweet by Susan Elizabeth Phillips, narrowly over Linda Howard's To Die For (and pushed over the line by the Georgette Heyer motif.)

Best movie: In Her Shoes (in an unusual happenstance, I liked the movie as well as, if not more than, the book)

Best TV show: Gray's Anatomy

Best song: Rogue Traders' Voodoo Child (and since my o/s readers won't know this fab. local dance track I'll toss in a runner-up--Backstreet Boys' big ballad Incomplete, which I added to my playlist of writing anthems)

Best moment: #2 son's graduation

Best location: Squaw Valley, where I spent several days with some good mates, kicking back after the Reno RWA conference. Magic.

Best event: the conference Harlequin party, natch, where your favorite authors rocked that dancefloor!

Best shopping experience: same trip, Virginia City, a serious jewelery extravaganza.

Best purchase: WOW Catherine Manuell handbag bought half-price in the winter sales. Love it, love it, love it!

Best Guilty Pleasure: the celebrity snark at The Superficial (and you thought I'd say Tim Tams, didn't you, hmmm?)

Best thing I did for myself: Lasik vision correction
(no more glasses, yay and wow!)

So, there is my list. I have some more thoughtful lists--things I learned this year, things I'm looking forward to in 2006--but for now I have a book to finish and I'm disappearing into my (air-conditioned) writing cave. When I return, I'd love to read loads of your best/funnest/WOW things from 2005. So, go ahead, knock yourself out with comments!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

I never really watched Grays Antomy. It's on at the same time as Crossing Jordan. I think one of my favourite shows is Las Vegas. As far as books are concerned I like anything by Diana Palmer and this year she has done some great work. I loved how she continued her Long Tall Texan series with Boss Man. I think the best movie I saw this year is The Pacifier with Vin Diesel. The best event/ moment was the harlequin open house. that was so much fun.(we already determined I have no life)

I Love Grey's Anatomy!!! I'll have to think on my list though. One of my best moments, however, was graduating from college Magna Cum Laude. I am just so glad that I was able to do that well when I have horrible migraines that seemed to plague me the whole four years.

I am still curious about these Tim Tam things...maybe when I get my Access Romance prize from you Bron (I won on Day 17), I'll be able to understand what they are better.

I haven't read AIN'T SHE SWEET but it must be awfully good to beat out TO DIE FOR, which is my fave.

I had lots of great moments in Reno. It was wonderful meeting Bron in person.

And of course my son's wedding and then later their news that a baby's on the way has to top all my lists for 2005.

You got lasik??? Was it painful? Scary? I dream of it--blind as a bat here--but I wonder if I could really go through with it, lol. Congrats on the clear vision!

And yup, Gray's Anatomy ROCKS!! (Did you know I have the discussion for it on my Harlequin Board? LOL!, we have ongoing discussions on whether or not McDreamy is McDreamy or McScum.)

Happy New Year!

Hi Bron, Well I was trying to think of my bests for 2005 but I have a lot of bests for the catagories like books for instance I read a lot of books so I can't just pick one or two. A few that were different that I can't wait for the next book in series are Lara by Bertrice Small and The Traveler by John Twelve Hawks. My best show would be a few too; Lost,Alias,Amazing Race,Prison Break.Movie-The Notebook,Pride & Prejudice,North Country.Purchase and best thing I did for myself is buying my new computer. My old one was so ancient and annoying.Guilty pleasure would be maple fudge from Vermont.Best moment/event was our family reunion,it was wonderful seeing so many family members we hadn't in so long some never before!Especially great because my grandma was there she just turned 90 years old.Shes my last grandparent alive and I'm so grateful we were able to see each other again.

Hi Bron.
Happy New Year.
The best thing I did for myself in 2005 was start that novel I always wanted to write. (even though I only started in December). Most enjoyable and treasured times were
the ones spent with my two children. Best tv show I watched was Desperate Housewives. Guilty Pleasures: Ferrero Rocher chocolates and love those TimTams too.(we get them here in New Zealand). Most time spent on the internet: reading your blog.

I got to meet Bron! How much better does it get than that?

No fair, Marilyn!

Though I didn't get to meet Bron, there are two things that stand out for 2005: the Wisconsin Book Festival (how can anything be better than a week of books!) and the "Talking Spirits" cemetery tour at a local cemetery. Lots of fun, interesting & informative, and idea-sparking to boot!

One of the best things for 2005 is I went with Dad to the city to have surgery(along with other siblings). I stayed the whole time to be with him and he passed away 6 days after surgery. We were even there when he passed away. We woke up at 3 a.m. and decided to go see how the private nurse and he were doing and within 1 hr. he passed away. I'm so thankful that I was there.

The best thing for me in 2005 was pushing the teenage daughter to bring her grades up.

My daughter, Karen got married last September so that was the best thing I (we) did - planning, attending the wedding. For us there was nothing better.

Marilyn, I see your offspring got married too this year. Congrats and on the upcoming baby too.

If you liked Aint She Sweet, you will love Match Me if You can - great story, fantastic dialogue.

I want to get Lasik too, but I am a little scared lol. No, I am not usually such a chicken. I guess it has something to do with lasers searing my corneas lol.

As far as favorites, my favorite show is American Idol. My favorite movie was The Notebook. My favorite production was my daughter's Christmas play lol. My favorite thing I did, was to become a book reviewer at Romance Junkies. My favorite book was Kat Martin "The Devil's Necklace".
Also, I am going to have to try these Tim Tams you guys keep talking about. My sister-in-law is originally from Melbourne,Australia, and she likes them too!
