Harvest...

...is one of the reasons December is always crazy in my household. If it's not worrying about the weather, it's worrying over breakdowns, getting parts delivered, the sample of the grain, and which pool/market to deliver to. But, joy of joys, we (and when I say we, I mean the others in my household) are into the last paddock and I want you all to send up a big group wish that we (they) don't have any more holdups so we're (they're)
finished before Christmas. That tends to be the goal every year: pull out of the paddock before Santa drops by! This afternoon, while delivering sustenance, I remembered to take my camera. This is what my part of the world looks like today and what my menfolks' world has looked like for the past month. As you might imagine, they're looking forward to the end of harvest and the end of grain-dust itch!

How interesting to see your part of the world. I grew up on a mixed farming operation and know all about harvesting and breakdowns. May there be no breakdowns for your guys any more. Thanks for sharing.

Great pics, Bron - especially love the bottom one. Very scenic!

And I would welcome a bit of that warmth right now. We've been below freezing the past month - never mind that winter doesn't officially start until tomorrow! - and I've been listening to the joyous sounds of a backhoe the last five hours. Water main in front of our building has decided to protest the killing cold. Burst water pipes...the bain of a northern winter!

Ooh, poor Heather. Bad enough it being so cold without broken pipes!

Harvest update -- they're almost done. Held up yesterday when the weather turned hot/windy and a fire broke out on another property. They shut down all harvesting operations when the weather's like that. But still hoping to finish today, oh please.

Hope the weather is better for your guys today, Bron, and that theya re able to finish up before Christmas.

Didn't get much sleep the night the pipe broke, but they adh the water back on by 7am. Made up for it by sleeping in yesterday.

Great pictures! Also, I just discovered your blog because someone (actually several people) recommended The Rich Stranger to me. Need to read it!

Late update: yup, they did finish late Friday night, so...yippee!

Josie, hi and welcome to my blog. I hope you do manage to pick up a copy of my Rich Stranger. I'm really quite tickled that it's been recommended to you.
