To Speak or Not to Speak

In the years I've been writing I have done no publicity locally. No interviews, no press releases or articles in the local papers, no book launches or signings. I'm happy letting anyone who asks know that I'm writing romance, and in recent times I've even become comfortable with directing them to my website for more info. on my books. I'm happy, they're happy, everyone's happy. *Waving to any happy locals who I've directed to my website lately.*

Earlier this week a local TV news reporter called. She wants to do a "human interest piece", interviewing and filming me at work in my office. I'm reluctant for a number of reasons: if I'm to be filmed, I will have to dress and possibly even wear makeup (something I happily never do at home.) I'll also have to clean up my office. And speak coherently and intelligently about something I'm happier doing than talking about doing. I could just say no, but I do have a book out in Australia at the moment. *Note to locals: I DO have a book out at the moment; check my website for details.* End of promotional interlude.

Plus I would, hopefully, promote a fundraiser.

That's how the TV station got my number, you see. I donated a "character naming" in one of my future yet-to-be-written books to a promise auction, raising funds for a cause I really wanted to help. The auction went very well and the reporter noticed my rather unique offering. She has promised to mention the fundraiser during the interview. So, I should do this. I should call her and make an appointment.

I know I should, but I really don't want to...

Hi Bron I don't blame you for being a little apprehensive,I sure would be. It would be different I think for you if the article could be done somewhere other than your home. The stress of cleaning, looking good, saying the right thing on top of family obligations is a lot to deal with. I have faith you could do it dont get me wrong,me on the other hand, lol. If it will promote your charity you love and your books thats a bonus, maybe you can check to see if you can do it somewhere else? take care

I keep forgetting that you Princes of the Outback trilogy is coming out in Australia now. I'm reading The Forbidden Twin, The Texan's Forbidden Affair, Expecting Lonergan's Baby, Their Million Dollar Night, The Soldier's Seduction(half way through), Baby, I'm Yours(next). Can't wait for next month for the start of Secret Live of Society Wives.
We had a camera crew come in when I was in college taking a Hort. program. They were doing a news story on it because the Hort program would help raise money for the program. A lot of the plants we grew in the green house we would sell. Also we would have a big sale in May for spring and the class taking floral design(which I was a part of) would be making arrangement and selling them. I think the teachers oked it but the student had no knowledge. Nothing like being on the news being up to your elbows in dirt.

I love that "Name in a Book" idea. Our chapter raffles off chances for that at our yearly Romance Readers' Luncheon. I wouldn't even mind being a villain. *g*

I can sure understand the part about having to get dressed. *shudder* I've had to get fixed up 2 days now for doctor's appointments and tomorrow I have to do it again for a haircut. Don't they understand we writers hate to put on shoes???

Hi Bronwyn!

I'm excited to find your blog. I've enjoyed your books and intend to keep reading. :)

As far as the interview goes,I would do what your instincts tell you to do. Be true to yourself. That is your genius.
