They're Out!!!

After 14 nights trapped in a cage a kilometer underground, Tasmanian miners Brant Webb and Todd Russell have been rescued. It's an amazing story that has held us gripped ever since they were discovered alive five days after the quake that trapped them and killed fellow miner Larry Knight. His funeral will be held this afternoon, delayed by his family in the hope that his mates underground and those involved in the rescue could attend. Now they can. What a day of gladness and sadness for the small and close-knit community of Beaconsfield. I am smiling through my tears.

I heard the news while at work this afternoon. What awesome news, especially after the mine tragedies here a few months back. Great to have some GOOD news on the TV for once!

That's great news Bron I'm glad they made it out. Like Heather mentioned here in the states we've had some mining tragedies and I wouldn't want my family member being a miner,it can be a dangerous job.

I listened to the radio report while I drove to work the morning they came back up into the light. The exultant cheers of the crowd had me in tears (not a good thing when driving in rain on a winding country road) but I felt so happy and relieved for the miners, their rescuers who were unstinting in their efforts, and for the miners' families and friends. It's good to hear of a happy ending in the media for a change.
