The RockStar Finale

I didn't get hooked on this year's series, but only because I missed the start and then I kept forgetting to watch and only caught random shows until the last few weeks. That said, through the recaps and montages, I quickly decided who I liked and who I loathed and who the contenders would be. Maybe my memory is failing me, but did anyone else think this year's final four were more even, more talented, and more rock?

Can't say I was surprised when Lukas was announced the winner. He made songs his own rather than belting out a fascimile of the original, plus he's got that same arrogance as JD Fortune last year. Didn't like either of them, but resigned myself to the fact that they'd end up winners. Sigh. Did you notice that he didn't look all that surprised to have won?

I suspect that Dilana wrecked her chances when the pressure got to her and she chucked that wobbly by the pool. I know that'd scare most men. A pity, because wow, what a voice and what a performer. Hopefully not winning will be better for her and her career.

Then there was Toby who looked nervous as heck during the show, although that didn't come through in his performance. Perhaps he was just a bit too nice, too humble, too deprecating...dare I say, too Aussie? Because that's what came across large when he spoke to the judges. "And I'm tall." Had to laugh at that, it was such a perfect demonstration of the Aussie sense of humour!

I've just read that last week's RockStar was the most watched "general entertainment" program in Australian subscription television history. Not sure what that means. What are its "general entertainment" competitors? Anyway, I'm sure the presence of an Aussie contender helped those ratings. Apparently Toby's success has also helped his Melbourne band's profile as well. Over the past week the Juke Kartel website plays have jumped from 500-1000 to a massive 10,000 to 15,000 plays a day.

RockStar fans, what did you think of the finale show? And which of the finalists do you predict will end up the biggest star?

That's two seasons in a row that Australias have come in third. I guess I should be happy that Canadians have won it two seasons in a row but it portrays us as rude and arrogant(sp?).
I think Dilana's little tantrum kind of put her down in the ratings cause she started out strong. So on the mansion show on Monday, both Dilana and Lukas wanted Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd. Lukas finally gave in and then Dilana choose to do Roxanne. That was the show Mig showed up with the keys to Toby's new truck. I think the finale was supposed to be either 2 hours or 11/2 hours. The show started out with 4 rockers and they were showing recaps of the season. Then at 8:30 all of a sudden there are only three left and everyone is wearing different clothes.

Christa, we definitely don't consider Canadians rude and arrogant. Just so you know. *g* That'd be like acknowledging, say, Russell Crowe as representative of Australians and New Zealanders. Nuff said!

I didn't see the Mansion show and our finale broadcast (on Fox8 cable) was 2 hrs and showed Magnis's elimination. Is that the bit they cut on you? I didn't notice a change in clothes, though.

I think that might have been what they cut out. At one point Brooke was talking about liiking back on some of the song selectetions and when they came back from commercial, Lukas was singing.
Brooke started the show wearing the same outfit she was wearing the night before, after that commercial where Lukas was singing Brooke was wearing a burgandy outfit.

Well, I'm over my tantie and I can accept that PERHAPS they chose Lukas over Dilana because of his original song writing ability. Remember in that original track episode and Gilbey Clark said he felt that Dilana wasn't quite on the money with her original songwriting? Mind you, didn't Lukas turn up to that with nothing prepared? ARgh! I'll go back to tantie throwing again.

DH reckons it was the chick vs guys thing and that on tour the guys want to be around guys.

I. Will. Not. Watch. Next. Year's. Rockstar!

BTW, Christa, I don't think I've ever personally met a Canadian who is rude or arrogant, so I wouldn't worry about that too much. I think the people who won were, without a speck of doubt, focussed 100% on being THE ONE, right from day one. And when you look at the fact the Lukas niggled at Dilana so much I reckon he picked her as his serious competition early and that his tactics worked. Eventually it led to her dissing him in an interview which backfired on her dreadfully.

Oh well, I hope she makes a great first album with Gilbey and Dave on guitar with her because I sure as eggs will be buying it. Although I think I would've rather made the effort to see her in concert with Supernova if she'd won.

I only started watching Rock Star a few weeks ago after mom said I had to see Storm. I figured either Magni or Lukas was going to win, they were the ones I thought had the personality and talent to take it. Though Storm reminded me of a female Kid Rock when she did Ladylike. :)
But as a canuck, its kinda cool that the winners this year and last were canadians

LOL Yvonne, I said that last season too, and I'll say it again this season I will not watch next season.

Hey, Lis. How GOOD was Storm doing Sufragette City? That was one of my series favourites, for sure.
