What Are You Reading This Weekend?

I'm a couple of chapters into Susan Napier's September Harlequin Presents Mistress for A Weekend, an appropriate weekendly title, don't you think?

Here is the blurb:

Nora Lang needs the most dangerous man she can find! Enter tycoon Blake MacLeod. He normally prefers sophisticated blondes that don't require too much of his brainpower. But Nora's a challenge...the perfect opportunity for a little light relief. Until she acquires some important information that he can't risk being leaked. Now Blake has to make sure Nora doesn't leave his sight--he'll make love to her for a whole weekend!

I've always loved Susan Napier's books--at one stage I hunted down her whole collection. Do not ask me why I no longer have them; it's a story that gives me cold shudders! What I most love about her books is her unique take on characters. They're never cardboard cutouts of the romance hero and heroine. There's always something quirky; something that sets them apart. (My personal favourite: the architect hero, who comes home to find his (female) butler asleep in his bed. And thinks she's his birthday present. Anyone read that one? Anyone remember the title?)

Blake and Nora are no exception. Although he's an alpha tycoon, he's not in-your-face arrogant or assertive. He's witty and sharp and charming and insidiously dangerous. Oh, yes, and did I mention melt-the-bones gorgeous? Nora is a klutz, she has freckles, and she's delightfully real. Oh, yes, and she's smart (despite the klutziness), so they strike up dialogue that makes me smile. As well as Napier's trademark sexy double-entendres, their early exchanges also include some unexpected insights into character and that only makes me like them more.

As I said, I'm only a couple of chapters in, but so far I'm along for the ride.

So, what are you reading this weekend? I hope it's not only blogs and that you take some time out to lose yourself in a book that makes you smile or cry, to laugh out loud or sigh with romantic delight.

Snap! I'm reading Susan's books too. Just finished Nora Roberts' Blue Smoke and felt like a change. I'm only a wee way in but I'm enjoying Mistress for a Weekend so far. Just wish I had more time to devote to it now, grrr!

Ohh...that book with the architect and butler sounds familiar, but can't think of the title.

It's a holiday weekend here (Monday is Labor Day) but it's supposed to rain Sun & Mon, so I hope to curl up with an afghan and the clingy cat, and catch up on a bit of reading. First up will be to finish Nora's BLUE DAHLIA; after that...will probably start the next one in the series.

I started Yvonne Lindsay's The Boss's Christmas Seduction this morning, then I think Sheri WhiteFeather's The Morning-After Proposal and then Blackhawk's Betrayal by Barbara McCauley.

Bron - another Susan Napier fan. Terrific! I love her books and have bought most of them, but I don't have the one with the female butler, do let me know the title if you find out(please). You're right about the characters being quirky and different - very real. In Blake and Nora's case they're so likeable too!

I bought 'Mistress for the Weekend' on Friday afternoon and finished it yesterday and loved it. Really loved it. I know I should have been doing things other than read, but I couldn't help myself!

I also just finished Trish Morey's 'Virgin for the Taking' and had a great time with it! The wonderfully vivid setting has made me eager to visit Broome. Can you tell that my house in knee deep in housework that hasn't been done? And the book I'm supposed to be working on ... well let's not go there.

snap, Bron and Yvonne -- I'm reading it too -- and it's faaabulous! A real Susan Napier classic.

Checked my collection for the female butler story, but don't have it. Lots of hers I don't have. Mostly the ones i loved the most. Have to stop this habit of pressing good books on friends. ;~)

I just finished the book Break No Bones by Kathy Reich,it is far from a romance book, but surprisingly there is a bit of a conflict with Tempes ex and currant boyfriend that lightens the book up.I'm starting Candace Hern's In The Thrill of the Night later Today.

I just finished Anne Gracie's wonderful Perfect Stranger (beg, steal or do whatever you can to get your hands onto that one - it's a keeper's keeper) and I've got Susan Napier's up next. Bliss!

And thanks Annie for your comments on the Broome book! So chuffed you enjoyed it:-)

Okay, I can't multitask to save my life but I do usually have 3-4 books going at any one time.

Yesterday I picked up Buried Treasure: Travels through the Jewel Box and on the way home started reading at page 333-the chapter about diamonds.

AND I'm currently reading MJ Rose's Lying in Bed as well as Susan Napier's new book.

I loved the Susan Napier story with the heroine in the elevator wearing a fur coat--and not much else...

I finished the book on Sunday and like Annie and Anne, I loved it. Interestingly, I have books by Trish Morey and by Anne Gracie in my TBR pile and I'm (impatiently) waiting Yvonne Lindsay's first. (Jealous, Christa.)
