A Ban on Vegemite...?

I interrupt my prolonged travelogue with this startling newsflash, heard on the radio and seen on yesterday's news service. Apparently American customs' officers are cracking down on visitors bringing in stashes of Vegemite for their homesick friends and rellies living/working in the good ole U.S. of A.

What next? A ban on Tim Tams???

Apparently it has something to do with regulation of folate and the FDA regulation that it only be added to breads and cereals. According to our national newspaper here in NZ the FDA are saying it's all a storm in a vegemite jar and that they're not picking on us after all. Let's hope not. Love me, love my vegemite.

Actually, there was a customs issue with Tim Tams a couple years ago, but thankfully seems to have been lifted this year. I did note, though, that they're no longer being sold here as "Tim Tams," but as "Arnott's Original." Just wish the one place that carries them here in town wasn't so far out of the way. Then again...maybe that is a good thing. lol

Once Bron taught me the proper way to eat Vegemite, I actually grew to enjoy it. Alas, it's rare as hen's teeth in the southern US. :-( But...

Perhaps I can find it on eBay. You can find anything on eBay.
