Baby Birds

The calendar says it's spring and has been for a month or two, although you would not know by the weather. We've been oscillating between "hottest recorded October day ever" and what must be close to the coldest November day(s) with snow in all kinds of places where it has no right to be snowing, even in July, let alone mid-November. But it is spring and the willy-wagtail couple built their nest this year in an ornamental rubber tree in my courtyard, right above the barbecue. She is a very good mum, really she is, getting into outraged squawks whenever we light the thing. These are the newborn hatchlings she is protecting. Only a mother could love 'em!

Why do I get the feeling you are thinking about moving the BBQ?

Bron, there are several willy wagtail nests along the creek where I walk my dog. And every time they dive-bomb my dog, who goes bananas at being swooped down on by these cross little critters. The dog flips around, swivelling head and body in different directions, leaping and barking, while all the time the willy wagtails swoop and dive and peck at her, making scolding chittering noises.

And me? I'm having my daily belly laugh.

It's so wierd when you talk about the seasons Bron since were the total opposite.Although your weather isn't being typical right now. Here in Washington state it has been raining too much and a lot of people have been flooded out of their homes or sadly lost them completely. Thankfully we live in a area where there isn't flooding due to the rivers and streams!
