Sydney Opera House

I've seen the iconic Sydney landmark more times than I can count, yet I still reach for my camera and click-click-click every time I'm this close. It's just so...Sydney. The skyline would be empty without those white sails, and I guess that is why the Opera House appears on so many covers of romance novels. Often placed in completely unbelievable locations. I saw one recently with it visible in the background of a surfbeach. Um, no, not really. Have also seen it combined with the Harbour Bridge in ways that defy perception. It has even graced the cover of one of my foreign copies (see below.) Do you have a favourite landmark or building that you can't help snapping whenever you see it?

That does make for a great backdrop.
I never really looked on covers for landmarks. I know there's a movie with Nicholas Cage where you can see the big clock in Niagara on the Lake. I guess the closest landmark around here would be Niagara Falls and when I visit my sister I sometimes see the CN Tower.

Bron, I can't help but snap the Opera House every time I see it too!
There's just something about it...

It holds a special place in my heart on romance covers because it was on my very first book. And in my opinion, my best cover so far! Gorgeous couple in a cinch under the Harbour Bridge with the Opera House in the background, with a pinky-purply dusk sky. Sigh...

I have a ton of different pictures of our State Capitol. Even though I grew up and still live in its shadow, I can't help photographing it at different times of the year or from different angles.

Oh, Christa, the Niagara Falls! I would definitely have my camera out clicking away!!

Nicola, I remember that cover. It IS gorgeous.

Ah, Heather, I bet you have some gorgeous shots, too, with your love of photography.

I guess I take the Falls for granted having them only 15 minutes away. To me it's just tons of water going over a cliff.LOL

Ah, Christa, where's your romantic soul? *g*

Bron
It's kind of soggy from 30 years of mist from those tons of water going over a cliff*g*

I think the Sdyney Opera House is a very neat building and very pretty at night. I have only seen it on TV. I would love to see it in person one of these days and also the Niagara Falls here in the states.

Thanks Bron - and you would definitely be clicking away at Niagara. I found all that water going over a cliff mesmerizing, and when I wasn't gazing at all that power in awe, I was busy photographing them from every angle. I have about 100 pics from just one day! Would love to go back some day...

My daughter lived in Madison, Wisconsin for the past 5 years and we always take several family photos on top of Bascom Hill sitting/standing around Abe Lincoln's statue. Looking to the east from the top of the hill you can look all the way down State St to the Wisconsin state capital building. It's beautiful just a little bit shorter then the Capitol in Washington DC. It was against the law to build it higher!! Great memories!!
