Successful Titles

Titles are SO not my thing. From 10 books this far (not counting the continuities, which are titled by editors from the start), only one of my original titles was used. I guess 10% isn't so bad, but I swear that percentage will drop the longer I'm writing. So, when Denise Rosetti posted this Titles Scorer, I was there! And according to Lulu, the title I'm currently writing -- VOWS AND A VENGEFUL GROOM -- has a slightly less than even money (50%) chance of being a bestseller. But then I'm pretty sure this scorer is set up to evaluate titles for the mainstream/single title market rather than category romances, and I know the odds of THAT degree of bestsellerdom is zero. I'm really loving writing this book (although it's way difficult, with loads of research) and I know it'll do just fine in the category market. But the title scorer was a fun diversion. Try it out and see how your title -- or one of your favourite titles -- rates.

Hi Bron,
I plugged in Fortune's Vengeful Groom and I too got a 10% chance of being a bestseller! How funny.

It was fun quick thing to do. I wonder what titles would get a 90% rating?

Hope all else is well with you!

LOL! My titles all came up as 10% too. I wonder if anyone's tested to see the result for titles like Wuthering Heights, Little Women, The Great Gatsby etc.

That's so funny coming from 2 #1 bestsellers. LOL. I didn't play around with enough titles to see what they reckoned were the "winners" but if anyone has done that, would love to hear the results!

Take heart peoples, Pride and Prejudice only has a 31% chance apparantly. I feel better about the 26% chance of my working title :)
