What's Up With This?

I have been trying to publish that last post ever since Thursday. I kept getting a zillion error messages when I tried to publish it; couldn't republish the whole blog; nothing worked. I ended up so exasperated that I decided enough-with-Blogger, I'm going to switch to Word Press. Plans are in progress. Today I decided to seek some expert blogger help and, since I had blogger open, I hit PUBLISH one more time...and it worked. Hooray! Just when I thought the dust had killed it stone dirty dead.

Just to make this post about something other than my trials and tribulations with blogger...

I heard on the news the other day that, despite my best efforts in taking cloth reusable bags to the supermarket whenever I shop, that last year's usage of plastic bags rose by 40%. What's up with that?

Ugh. You'll never win with blogger. They often have downtimes where they're supposedly working out the bugs but... it's a lost cause I think. It's great but... from what I've heard, WordPress is ace :)

The dust sounds awful, Bron. My sympathies. There's nothing worse for furniture or for allergies.

And on the plastic bags, we also use reusable bags every week. I'm astounded weekly by the huge number of people who don't. It's no hardship to put the bags back in the boot of the car when you've unpacked the groceries, is it?

Hello, I hate dust and there is really nothing one can do about it. My friend has a special filtration system in her home, but I am not quite sure how much it conquers dust!
The plastic bag usage percentage that you gave is a sad commentary on we humans. When is everyone going to wake up before we can't smell the roses?! Take care.....Cindi

That picture with the dust storm looks like a miserable time for everyone. We've started with reusable bags and changing our lightbulbs. Hopefully 2008 will have a different statistic.

Your stats are horrendous. I didn't realize it was increasing like that. I too hope that they will be better for 2008. Have a lovely day

I am an avid reader and would love to win the 8 books in your Mother's Day collection. I know what you mean about blogger. It takes me 2 or 3 tries before it accepts my username and password.

Hey, everyone, and thanks for all the sympathy over dust and blogger. I'm still confuzzled about what was going on. I've had mini-meltdowns with it before but this was MAJOR. The error messages scrolled down for pages and I was afraid I'd never be able to blog again. Horrors. Re the bags: astounded me, those figures, because I do see people using their reusable bags all the time. I really thought the message was getting through. Sigh.

That was quite a picture of the dust storm, what a mess it must have been. I can never get the hang of signing in for blogging, it take 2 or 3 times for me too.

Blogger: yuck and yikes--go to wordpress for sure. Of course, I'm quite biased--Karen Scott just changed from blogger to wordpress herself, and now she lets me post

Plastic: I am not sure, but have you noticed how often people will use a bag for every couple of items they buy, instead of packing the bags properly?

I recycle whatever plastic bags make their way to my house, and keep trying to get my neighbors to do the same. :sigh: You'd think more people would be aware of how bad things are, wouldn't you?

No wonder there are so many bags used. If you go to Walmart they will put about 2 things in one bag and when you get home you have about 50 bags to carry in and nothing in the bags.

Go, buy the book. It's out now. You won't be sorry.

There, that was my shameless promotion. :-)

Re bags: I hear what you're saying about the packing. We need to let them know, politely, that we can do without the too-many bags. Don't know what it's like in othr places in the world, but here in Australia a lot of stores will now ask "would you like a bag?" if you only buy one item. And one supermarket (at least) asks if you want a bag if you buy less than x items.

Your photo is a winner! I hope that you have received some much needed precip. Enduring that dust is not fun.
