I Need A Name...

...a surname for a guy, something strong but distinguished, with a leaning toward English origin if anything. For extra encouragement I'm offering a reward, a choice of books from my backlist, for the name I like best. Contest closes April 12. Disclaimer: I may not end up using the chosen name, but I'll still do the giveaway.

While I'm here, a heads up that I'm blogging today at 2 B Read about the concept of "the eternal present" in books. Would love your input. Comments this week go in the draw to win a desire Duo with includes my The Ruthless Groom.

Oh, oh, oh. (Picture me bouncing in my chair with excitement.) This is the most awesome list. I keep going THAT ONE and then NO, THAT ONE and then, heck, I know I can use them all for loads of characters. Keep them coming, folks. This list I'm compiling is all kinds of wonderful.

Oh, and I should have been more specific about the prize: it'll be a 3-pack of books.

Clarke (something with an added "e" at the end) makes the name so much more pretentious. :)

Madly scribbling down names.

You all are making it too difficult; I'm changing my mind on the favourite hour by hour. Name selection is so much fun...but also so important. I can't fasten on the character at all until the name is right. It is so defining.

Christa, I must say that Jameson does have a certain je ne c'est quoi about it. *g*

Ann, that "e" at the end does make a difference. I have sisters who needed a plain, no frills name. I decided that Browne fit perfectly; not Brown.

Aztec Lady, yr so has just provided me with a job for every character in my next 10 books as well as their names. LOL.

Oh, there's another one I like...

Bronwyn - Can't wait to Susanah's story. BTW, I thought the scene between Alex and Zara where they finally "get together" was one of the best love scenes ever written - great tension and emotion.

My suggestons: Brockman, Blake, Bramwell, Calhoun, Carrington, Cole, Cooper, Morgan, Mitchell, Renshaw, Warren - and you can always use my maiden name: Pierce!

This was SO hard, and I'm still not sure that this will be the final choice, but I am using it in the first proposal and we'll see how it fits the dude as I commence writing his story.

WENTWORTH.

It has an almost pompous ring to it, which may work as a contrast to my decidedly unpompous hero. It will suit his family very nicely.

So, the winner is Christa. Email me and we can discuss book choices.

Thanks again to everyone for their fabulous ideas. As well as having an incredible list you all made me think that much harder about suitable names and about this guy and his family and how the name reflected on them.

You guys rock!
